LingDetective: private investigations

LingDetectve accepts all cases concerning linguistic doubts. Note this site would NOT provide advices about prescriptive uses. Instead, we'll discuss such subjects as:
- Diachronic interpretations
- Synchronic description and formalisations (mainly HPSG)
- Curiosities & alii.
The cases currently under revision are:
- Modality: a quasi-grammaticalised category?
- Aspect & Aktionsart: System merging in the verbal head?
- Grammatical categories: Are there inherent to all languages?
Curiously, Bernard Pottier (Sémantique et Logique, 1983) speaks of a genotype language, underlying to all fenotype languages (From Šaumjan, 1965).
- Parts of Speech: Which are the elemental syntactic particles?
- Subjunctive: grammatical marking of intensionality (from logic)
- Prepositions (adpositions): equal to case suffixation?
Why wouldn’t we see the shift from case to prepositional marking as a re-orbit from right to left under the force of linearity (and accent shift). Prepositions are affixes!? (and articles!?)
- Phonemic change: does it happen in spiral form? No shortcuts?
